Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 1, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information JCU Men's Soccer Mentorship (the “Site”), owned and operated by 2004 Enterprises LLC, collects, how it is used, and the choices available to you. The Site exists to connect alumni with current student-athletes for mentorship and career guidance.
The Site is an independent project owned and operated by 2004 Enterprises LLC. It is not officially affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by John Carroll University.
We do not sell your information, use it for advertising, or share it for marketing purposes. We share it only with the service providers described below that help us operate the Site, or when required by law.
Information we collect
- Account information: name, email address, password (stored only as a salted, one-way hash – we never store or can view your actual password), and whether you are a alumnus or student-athlete. If you opt in to text-message notifications, we also collect your phone number.
- Profile information you choose to add: for alumni – graduation year, playing years, job title, company, location, bio, areas you're willing to help with, and a profile photo; for student-athletes – graduation year, career interests, areas you'd like help with, a bio, a profile photo, and an optional resume (PDF, DOC, DOCX, or RTF).
- Messages and forum posts: the content and timestamps of direct messages exchanged between alumni and student-athletes, and of posts made in Atrium discussion groups.
- Job postings: if you submit or import a job posting, we store the posting details (title, company, location, description, and a link back to your profile as the poster).
- Location data: location text you add to your profile or a job posting (for example, a city and state) is used to plot approximate map pins in the Site's Insights map.
- Uploaded files: profile photos and resumes you upload, and (for administrators only) the site logo and other site branding assets.
- Notification preferences: if you enable browser push notifications, we store the push subscription your browser generates so we can deliver notifications to it.
We do not use advertising or analytics cookies, and we do not track you across other websites or apps.
How we use your information
- To create and secure your account, and to authenticate you when you log in.
- To show your profile to other Site members as appropriate for your role (for example, student-athletes can browse the alumnus directory; alumni can see messages from student-athletes who reach out to them).
- To deliver messages and forum posts between members of the Site, including in real time.
- To notify you of new messages, forum activity, or event reminders by email, SMS text message (only if you've opted in), and/or browser push notification.
- To show member and job locations on the Site's Insights map.
- To operate, maintain, and improve the Site, and to respond to support requests.
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with advertisers or any other third party for marketing purposes.
Who can see your information
- Other logged-in Site members can see the profile information associated with your role (as described above), consistent with the Site's directory and messaging features.
- Members of an Atrium discussion group can see posts made within that group. Job postings and Insights map pins are visible to logged-in Site members generally.
- Site administrators (staff of 2004 Enterprises LLC who manage the Site) can view all member accounts and all messages and forum posts sent through the Site, for the purposes of support, safety, and moderation.
- We do not sell or share your information with any other third party for marketing. The only exceptions are the service providers described below, which process information on our behalf to operate the Site, and disclosure compelled by law (for example, a valid subpoena or court order).
Service providers we use
To operate certain features, the Site shares the minimum information necessary with the following third-party service providers. They are only permitted to use it to provide these services to us, not for their own marketing purposes.
- Ably: delivers messages and forum posts in real time and powers the online-presence indicator.
- Resend: delivers account, message, and event-reminder emails.
- Twilio: delivers text-message notifications, only for members who have opted in to SMS and provided a phone number.
- Your browser's push notification service (for example, provided by Google, Apple, or Mozilla) delivers browser push notifications, only for members who have enabled them.
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim: converts location text (like a city and state) into approximate map coordinates for the Insights map.
Text message (SMS) notifications
We do not sell, rent, or share your mobile phone number with any third party for their own marketing or promotional purposes. Your mobile number is used only to deliver the SMS notifications you opted in to, through Twilio as described above.
If you opt in to SMS notifications, you may receive a text message when you get a new direct message from another member, and in the future may also receive texts about new forum activity or upcoming event reminders. Message frequency varies depending on your activity on the Site and typically does not exceed a few messages per week. Message and data rates may apply. You can opt out at any time by unchecking “Text me” in your notification settings, by removing your phone number from your profile, or by replying STOP to any text message; reply HELP for help.
Data storage and security
Your information is stored in a database used only to operate the Site. Passwords are hashed before storage using industry-standard cryptographic hashing (bcrypt); we cannot recover your original password. Uploaded files (photos, resumes, logos) are stored on the Site's server and are only accessible via the link the Site generates for them.
Data retention and deletion
We retain your account and associated profile, message, and file data for as long as your account remains active. You may ask a Site administrator to delete your account at any time; deleting an account permanently removes your profile and all messages associated with it. Some records may be retained for a limited period where necessary for legal, security, or record-keeping purposes.
Your choices
You can review and update most of your profile information at any time from your profile page. To request a copy of your data, or to request that your account be deleted, contact the Site's System Administrator using the information below.
Children's privacy
The Site is intended for alumni and current student-athletes and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above.
